Red Scarf Girl
A Memior of the Cultural Revolution
By Ji-li Jiang
This book just amaze me through out the whole time. Because from my reactions to my hopes of what is going to happen next was as What I had expected at all. This book causes me to feel pain, sad, almost at tears, mad, angry, etc. I guess maybe I'm asian too, haha, maybe that is why I feel so affected. But I didnt think that i'll be into this kind of book, since I'm not a history type of person. But I do know that I like to heard sad storys of what tradgedys that people had encounter. So maybe that is why I feel so touch by this book.
The author Jiang used great details describing what happen and she used all kinds of emotions to atrracts us as the reader's attention. I like how Jiang describe the situation and their feelings of intenseness through out the whole book. She also describe their hopes and dreams that are crush but they are still looking forward to it. Jiang know when to used describtive images along with feeling to make us be drawn deeply into the scene. Her style of seeting is a great way to understand the whole place and to feel like we know every singo places that she mention because Jiang doesn't add on many places but focus on one main spot. Which is her own town village. This helps us not to go back and look up the place where it last happen. Jiang does a great job of not jumping from one scene to another. She finish off the scene with a bad ending and then it leads to another. For example, At Jiang's school, She was elected to try out for one of the red guard, and cant wait to go home and tell her family so she rush home and at the door, Jiang was supper happy that she started to greet her siblings like a army woman. This flows softly from one setting to another. It didnt just jump that she was at school then all of a sudden she is home. Her ways of placing the flow of one setting to the next makes us as the reader feel like we were there with her the whole time, experiencing her whole tradgy life. This mades the book easier to read and makes us more focus into the book. It makes us as the reader to not have any problems of going back and pondering what happen or ponder about the confusing scene.
There are many passages that I liked. But here is one that I like the best. One of the passage that I like is one page, 263, "Another day." I took a deep pbreath and shook my head. " I will do my job. I will."
This passage is the very ending of the book. It leaves me a good empression because I believe that this passage meant that she know that there is another day of misery. Though Jiang will do her best o take care of her grandma, mother and her sibling. That she will not give up living and will continue to be strong. I like this passage because of her strong will heart. She will be there for her family and not a lot of this is happening in America today because not many family gone through these king of tradgey anymore. I'm not saying there isnt any but it's just that many people give up nowdays. And in her situation, it was super hard for her and she is a girl in her family though she try and try through hard and bad time. There are times when she wanted to give up but she didnt and I felt so proud for her. It just boost up my couage to believe in my self more and more. To learn from her and be a even better me.

4th Journal of Memoir Book
Red Scarf Girl
A Memoir of the Cultural Revolution
By Ji-li Jiang
My reactions to the book just keeps getting more and more shocking because i didnt expect Jiang's family to be in a big problem. More and more things that are bad keeps on happening near Jiang but now things are being bad for Jiang and her family. I'm shock that even though her family id suffering, they dont realize that Chairman Mao id a bad person. I felt like they have been fool, but i guess that does happen in real life too. But it's just that all the people have turn against eachother and are being mad and mean to each other, even the peole that are close to the poeple who are torturing each other. Some how I felt like things are going to be resolve but the ending didnt end as I expected. I was really into the book and i was looking forward to how this situaion will be solve but the ending reallie surprise me. There was no solutions at at when I finish the end of the book. The only solutions was that after Chaiman Mao die, that's when people styart to realize that they have all been fool by their beloved Chairman Mao. They just couldnt believe how they can be under his spell for so long to have turn agingt all their trusted people. It makes me so made that the poele have just realize all the foolishness that Chairman Mao have done the them, Many poeple have lost their future because of him, many people was torture, suffer, and die just because of Chairman Mao. It makes me so mad that no one have realize it at all until be die, that mean no one will be able to make Chairman know his guiltiness ever since he have fool everyone, making everyone love him and believe in him until he pass away.
Jiang's family have gone through alot since her dad is being held for struggle meeting, those are meeting to make people admit somthing that they have done wrong. Jiang's family is always being questions about their dad and their family background. One day, their family was in the newspaper, it was said that they were landlords that owns 3300 acres of land, that they must be rich and very mean to the people back than. Jiang couldnt believe what was happening. Jiang felt so betray that her family had hid this kind of informations from her. Jiang hated her family for being landloards, because that is what is people dislike, landlord people. They belive they are evil for making people pay them for lands, they are seen as evil, baing mean to the people and whipping them, etc.Jiang was so sad nad mad that she almost change her last name but decided not to because she dont want to lost ties with her family but just want to not be apart of the landlord generation. During the exhibition, Jiang prsent a story about a bad landlord, which Chaiman MAo was there to see. The principle Cahirman Jin wanted to talk to Jiang and Jiang found out that the people from her dad's work place was there to make her goand support to a struggle meeting where people critize and force her dad to admit. Jiang didnt want to . The next day at the exhibition meeting, she was told that they found a replace ment for her already because of her family issue. School was to have their students go work at the farmland field (country side to do labor) or to go work at the factory. Jiang wanted to work at the factory to make sure she's close to her family but Chong Hong convince her to go to the country side since it'll be a better meaning that she is still with Chairman Mao. Jiang fainted at the field and was told that she have to go back home since the people from her dad's work place wanted to question her again. Jiang went home and their uncle Fan gave them a very important paper to review their dad's case if he was really at fault but the people from their dad's work place found the letter hidden in their home and made their 70 year old grandma sweep the alley at leveryday like other people and her mom was to report to her work what happen she that she is apart of the struggle meeting. Jiang decided to keep living and support her family even though they have gone through so much. This is the end. sad and torturing. No lovely happily ending.
I like the passage from Jiang, "It was my turn to take care of them." This passage meant that Jiang have already promise to take care of her family a long long time agao, and she realize she couldnt really do it, but she still have hope and will still look after her grandma and mom since she is the oldest daughter and the only one from her siblings who can take care of them all. This passage is so touching that it just make me feel so sad and bad for her. I envy her for being strong.

My reactions to the book just keep getting worser and worser. I'm getting more and more surprise that nothing is happening so far. Nothing to stop all the drama and all the bad things that are happening. There are so many misunderstanding and wrongful meaningless things that are going on. All along I just keep reading and hoping for a dram come true thing to happen that would solve everything. But as I keep reading my reaction just keep dropping. Maybe there wont be anything that will stop all the mess that are going on. But I still keep my hope up on what is going to happen next in the story. The book gets stronger and stronger every minutes that i read the book. What i mean is that the book gets this feeling of tense feelings that draws you into the book and it makes you feel like you are a art of the story. This is a amazing feeling that makes me feel so sad because I felt like I cant even do anything to help all those people or tell them that they are all fools for turning against each other like that. I just felt like I'm one of the people there and I felt like deep inside I am suffering too. This book is very emotional and it really draws you into the book. Every minute, I feel more and more draped into the story. I like how the author keeps all the story into one simple setting. Just the neighborhood is the main focus of the story and then there is only school. Which school doesnt really do anything to the story. But I like how the story focus into one main spot. It makes it easier to understand and picture the whole story.
After all the problems in the neighbor, school is in session again. Jiang is now a Junior High School student. SO far non of the bully that was in Jiang's class last year was in her class. Jiang didnt have anyone she know in her clas though. But at least Du Hai and Yin Lan-lan are not in her clss.Jiang was very exited for Junior High School since she had heard they they were very fun and exciting, unlike elementary. But that was way before the Cultural Revolution began. Not, it all seem different. It wasnt what Jiang expected. It was more boring than she had expected. Since Theor Chaiman Mao wanted everyone to learn about farming and all those land, all the teachers dont really know what to teach except for boring hand outs. So school wa ssuper boring for Jieng, and not just her, but all the other students in school too. They have to learn about farmland and even learn how to say things like "Long live Chairman Mao." Chairman Mao belives that it'll educate the people more by farming. In math class, Jiang and another boy name Bai Shan did really good in class. They were good students so the teachers wnated them to join the propaganda group for the black boeard newspaper because they both have beautiful hand writing. Jiang was very excited at first but she realize that at her old school, everyone was jealouse that she was favor. So Jiang turn down the offer because ther could be rumor spreading that she gets to work with Bai Shan and that she was favor again. Since her family background wasnt good at all. Now there is a problem with Jiangg's father workplace. Someone have lied that they listen to foreign radio broadcast. The worker wanted someone to amit that they are lying. So they start beating up the workers at her dad's place to get poeple to amit who lie. Someone had lie that it was Jiang's dad and now he is taken away to work haard until he amit. But he keep saying he did nothing and wouldnt amit anything. So for many months and day, Jiang's family haven seen their father. Their house were also being search too. Many things were taken away from Jiang's family. Jiang have been depress and havent gone to school for many days now. Lin-lin from her class came to tell her that there is a meeting at the exhibition tomorrow and for Jiang to attend. Jiang did go and the meeting was about political issue of Chairman Mao. Jiang didn't want to be one of the member because of her background but teacher Zhang convince her to get over her background. So they get into a group and work together to decorate the room for Chairman Mao. Jiang was happy again for once. doing something for Chairman Mao. I like the passage, "We cannot choose our families or our class status. But we can choose or futures." This passage have a touching , encouraging ways of getting a person brighten up. This passage is true throughout the world. That is why i like this passage.

2nd Journal of memoir book
Red Scarf Girl
A memior of the Cultural Revolution
By Ji-li Jiang
My reaction to the book just got so sad an shocking. I dont understand why the students think they are doing a good thing to their leader when they are all messing and making more problems. It made me think how stupid the students are by bullying each other. I believe that their new leader Chairman Mao is a very bad influence and is just causing more death and making the economy more miserable by making one another turn against eachother and making students have a easy school with no studying. I have just gone shock when people dont care about each other anymore and even someone's own family member hated each other for being born to their generation. at first the book seem to have a nice and peaceful back ground but then it started to fall apart. The tension of the book starts to built up more and more and the book just seem more interesting because it makes me ponder about what is going to happen next. Makes me wonder if things are geting any worser or are they going to get solve. But it is already the middle of the book and the problems of the book just seem to get worser and it just draws me deepper into the book waiting to see what will happen next.
School is almost over for Jiang, She wanted to becaome one of the red successor. Jiang was nominated but Yin Lan-lan said that they should look up their family backgroung and that was when she said Jiang's grandpa was a land lord and her dad was a rightist. Jiang couldnt said anything because she didnt know. So she went crying home and later her dad took her and her sister out to talk about their family backgroung. Her dad is appointed a vice-principle of a primary school and her grandpa was a land lord and a businessman. But he was sick the whole time and he die when Jieng's dad was seven. The ten successor was elected and none of then was Jiang. One day they wanted to talk to Jiang about her because of her back ground and her family. I believe this isnt right because they were jealouse of Jiend and they are mean to her just because of her back groung and they Jiang was always the lead in their homeroom. MAny policys have been changed. Jiang, their school don thave to take any final test to graduate. They just graduate. Jiang was worried because what about going to the next school, how are they going to be evaulate? Teacher Gu tell Jiang that the teacher makes the decision but found out that students in the same district are all going to the same school. Jiang was deeply disappointed abause she wont be going to the school she wanted, a elited school. Afterward, many people were bullied intheir neighbor.Homes were being search for the "four olds" it's bad to have thise and tehy are suppose to delvolpe the "four news" If there are a rumor going around then your house will ne search and all the thihngs that they think are "four olds will be taken away and everywhere in your house will be search so that means a super messy house with many broken up dihes and items that are being toss down the floor to be check and also by drilling hole i your house to check for hidden places of jewlery." The sound of drums and gongs drew near againg," This passage show that when ever there are these sound then there are being a search house. First Journal of my Memoir book
Red Scarf Girl
A memoir of the Cultural Revolution
A memoir of the Cultural Revolution
Book by Ji-Li Jiang
What was my reaction of the book? Well first of all, when I very first saw the book, I thought that the book must be boring because of the dull red color of the cover and the photo on the cover is a old sort of white and black photo. But the heading, a memoir of the cultural revolution made me ponder what the book must be about, since I haven't read the book at all, I decided to choose this book as my memoir book, I thought it might be interesting. When i first read the book, I thought, it wasn't as bad as I thought because the author made the first paragraph very bright and positive. The author made the book seem like a cheerful book instead of a boring and slow sad beginning. That is what kept me reading on and on. The author focus her thought through out the story and made me feel her a lot, showing her emotions and her beliefs, clearly state the things she feel. All those emotions draws me deeply into the book and I felt like I was a pat of it. The author also made me feel like I was wondering what is going to happen next. Since the whole begging is super cheerful, I felt like there is something bad that is going to happen to surprise us or change the mood. That is exactly what happen and those feelings makes me just want to finish the book in one day.
So far, in the beginning of the book, the mood was super bright and cheerful. The main person of the memoir is Ji-li Jiang, as you an see, it's a memoir of her as a young girl. Age 12 and in 6th grade, Ji-li felt like she have always been loved and she felt like her family have everything and that they are super lucky. It was during class that a Liberation Army woman came to her school and tested a few students and even Ji-li. Ji-li happen to pass the army woman's test and the principle and the army woman wanted her to audition for the dance training class. Ji-li went home excited to tell everyone in her family what happen that day but sadly, Ji-li's elder didn't approve. He said Ji-li wont understand now, and it's completive and they will surly look into their background. Ji-li's dream of everything was crush. she felt like her family was perfect until now. Next, people are breaking the sign at the Great Prosperity Market. To make new custom. Her grandma was disappointed. Ji-li thought it was good to get used to new custom. But at school, students tolerate one another if one was to wear old custom and it started to get out of hand. Writing a da-zi-bao about Ji-li and a teacher in a relationship, An Yi's (Ji-li's close friend) family. Finally Red Guards rebel against the old system and everything was fresh again.

Valentine!!
This is a day where it is LOVED!! This is a day where EVERYTHING is a COMPETITION! This is a day where BUTTERFLIES fly every where. This is a day where you see RED. This is a day for COUPLES. I Love is day because it is design for lovers out there, couples out there, to spent time with the ones you loved, etc. This is a day where I get a lot of chocolate. I LOVE CHOCOLATE CANDIES. This is the day where I get high from candies. This is a day where I can be kiddish and get many teddy bears. This is a day when i can go out with the one I LOVE. Every "lady's" awaits until this day. And this day is almost here. I just cant wait! there are many people who fear this day. there are many people who may hate this day. But one thing I know for sure is that I LOVE this day and I don't care! I want CHOCOLATE CANDIES, TEDDY BEARS, WANNA GO OUT, and have FUN! This day is for me, this day is for you, this day is for everyone! Sadly but there is only one of this day a year. Why cant there be many? that I don't know and do wish to change but I guess I cant. Until next year, we'll be waiting. And waiting, and waiting. But just you wait Valentine days, I will take control and spent my time with this day wisely and i will plan until then. So here I go!
memorable place
There are many places in the world that you will always remember. But I know that there will always be one that you will remember for ever. For me, a places is where I used to go everyday and I love it. It's my elementary school, call Farnsworth Aerospace. This is where I went for my 4th to 6th grade. A time where I get to be wild and go to the playground and play with other kids. Not having to worry at all. I was so small compare to now. It has been five years since I have visit this place. The school has a old building smell that I never notice before. The school have a low ceiling compare to my high school at Central Sr. High. My old elementary school have only three level and I remember that I used to HATE going up the stairs to the third floor all the time. I used to complain why it has to be this high and I thought that this school is the only school with so many levels. But now I know, Central have five and one half levels. Now that is a lot. Elementary school is so tiny and cute. They fit small kids. They have small desk, which I have always thought that they are the same as the desk in high school. Elementary is a lot different now and I recommend everyone to visit their old elementary school again. Elementary have a smell of kids and you can hear children's laughter and kiddish talk, etc. Elementary school are more quite and I believe that they behave better than high school students. It's so cool how we used to be the best kids or the baddest kids in elementary. They obey teachers a lot and elementary just seem more peaceful. They have a different aroma than high school. I wish I was a elementary students again.
